From the back...
Drowning in $20,000 of credit card debt,
shopaholic Karyn Bosnak asked strangers for money online -- and it worked!
What would you do if you owed $20,000? Would
you: A) not tell your parents? B) start your own website that asked for
money without apology? or C) stop coloring your hair, getting pedicures, and
buying Gucci? If you were Karyn Bosnak, you'd do all three.
Karyn started a funny yet honest website,
www.savekaryn.com, on which she asked for donations to help her get out of
debt. Karyn received e-mails from people all over the world, either
confessing their own debt-ridden lives, or criticizing hers. But after four
months of Internet panhandling and selling her prized possessions on eBay,
her debt was gone!
In Save Karyn: One Shopaholic's Journey to
Debt and Back, Karyn details the bumpy road her financial -- and
personal -- life has traveled to get her where she is today: happy,
grateful, and completely debt-free. In this charming cautionary tale, Karyn
chronicles her glamorous rise, her embarrassing fall, and how the kindness
of strangers in cyberia really can make a difference.

"You'll marvel at this babe's
brazenness, as well as the kindness of strangers."

"A funny read. A bit like Reese Witherspoon in Legally Blonde, Bosnak is naďve, honest
and shares enough self-deprecating humor to keep you reading.
She will endear herself to many guilty female readers by admitting her
attachment to costly haircuts, highlights and beauty products… Some episodes
(going for a bikini wax) are laugh-out-loud funny, as are her money-saving
tips and responses to mean critics… The book succeeds as entertainment…"

Recommended Save Karyn and placed it on
their '10 Best To-Do' list. "Read it. You'll love her sweet
'internet panhandler' tale..."

Named Save Karyn a hot book pick. "The former spendthrift spins an incredible
true tale..."

|
|
Picked Save Karyn for the 'Color of Money
Book Club.' "Save Karyn is a fascinating read... Bosnak's book is sort of a Scared Straight for shopaholics... You may
think that by recommending Save Karyn I'm rewarding her for bad behavior.
But her tale serves a greater good."

"Karyn
practiced survival of the fittest and won... Save Karyn's self-deprecating
humor, wit and sarcasm make it enjoyable. Her transformation—from a
Sex in the City wannabe to a realistic woman who occasionally buys cheap
toilet paper and dares to eat the mystery foods in the back of the
refrigerator—brings a human quality to this story. After reading
this book, the only grudge I hold is against myself - for not thinking of Karyn's successful scheme myself. B+"

winning through."

Gave 'Save Karyn' 4 out of 5 stars.
"Save Karyn is a self-help book
and more. Karyn wasn't just holding out her hand with a cup. She
offered to entertain for a dollar. She's
funny. A heck of a lot funnier at times than CBS' Everybody Loves
Raymond which costs advertisers more than a dollar per person. This
may be considered a 'chick-book' and a self-help book, but it also has
lessons of marketing in the current pop-culture. It even has the makings of
being a weekly sitcom -- move over Raymond." Click here for full review

"What a great story! I DEVOURED it in two sittings and ACHED with
identification on every single page and with every single purchase. What was
so incredible about it was how easy to see how it could happen - a 'there
but for the grace of God' moment. I loved Karyn, she was so funny and she
completely articulated the dichotomy (if that's the right word) of every
woman in the world - the gap between the person we know we are and what we
want to present to the outside world. And even though this is a very
funny and engaging book, it also throws up very serious questions about
identity and self-esteem, about how women are fooled into thinking they can
buy a new persona.
And then when she set up the web-site I was so rooting for her - peoples'
reactions were absolutely fascinating, and even though some (several) of the
emails she got were hostile and sometimes insane, this book is SO uplifting.
I just kept thinking 'there are decent people out there.' ; instead of being
depressed by the hostile reactions Karyn got, I was cheered to see that so
many people have hung on to their generosity of spirit, despite negative
influences.
Save Karyn really is a triumph of the goodness of people. Yay!!! And it's
just a great old read and I'm sure it'll strike a chord with people
everywhere."
